Our home HbA1c test can help identify pre-diabetes or determine how well a person's diabetes is being controlled following diagnosis. This HbA1c test is used to check the amount of glucose or sugar in your blood and high levels can inidcate poor diabetes management.

Symptoms of type 1 and type 2 diabetes may include:

  • Urinating more than ten times a day
  • Persistent thirst
  • Feeling hungry even though you are eating a recommended calorie intake each day
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Dry eyes or blurred vision
  • Dry mouth or tongue
  • Itchy skin
  • Unexpected weight loss (type 1 Diabetes)
  • Pain or numbness in the hands (type 2 Diabetes)

The test is used to determine your risk of diabetes (pre-diabetes) or how well your diabetes is being managed. You should take this test if:

  • You have diabetes type 1 or type 2
  • You have a family history of diabetes
  • You are presenting with symptoms of diabetes

The sample must be collected in the morning, preferably before 10 am on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday and returned on the same day.

  • % of Hemoglobin A1c

The % of Hemoglobin A1c refers to the amount of glycated hemoglobin in the blood. Glycated hemoglobin is red blood cells that have glucose attached to them. An A1c between 5.7-6.4% signals prediabetes. Type 2 diabetes is diagnosed when A1c is over 6.5%
