About STDs

  • Chlamydia

Chlamydia is a common STI that affects both males and females and generally shows no symptoms. If left untreated, it can result in serious health complications and can easily be spread to partners, so it’s important to take action for peace of mind.

  • Gonorrhoea

Gonorrhoea can cause infections in the genitals, rectum and throat. It is especially common among young adults. Some men, and most women, experience no symptoms so early detection is essential. This test can detect genital gonorrhoea.

  • Trichomoniasis

Trichomoniasis is the most common curable STI. Only 30% of people with this infection develop symptoms, so regular testing is important. If left untreated, the infection can last for months or even years.

80% of sexually transmitted infections are asymptomatic (do not display any symptoms), however, if symptoms do occur, they are likely to present themselves within two weeks of infection.

Symptoms of sexually transmitted infections may include:

  • Painful urination
  • Pain during sexual intercourse
  • Rash on the genitals and/or anus
  • Itching or irritation on the genitals and/or anus
  • Unusual lumps or bumps around the genitals and/or anus
  • Change in colour of the male or female discharge
  • Abnormal discharge in terms of smell, consistency or volume
  • Strong vaginal odor
  • Painful erections

STIs can take a period of time to become detectable. This is called the window period. You should wait at least 4 weeks from the time of potential exposure to infection before taking this test.

You should also consider getting tested if:

  • You become sexually active
  • You have had unprotected sex
  • You are experiencing symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection
  • You are entering into a new sexual relationship
  • You have received a notification from a previous partner that they are infected

The sample must be collected from the initial stream of urine in the morning and returned on the same day. Do not cleanse the genital area or urinate at least 1 hour prior to collection.

If you are concerned about possible exposure to an STI you should refrain from sexual activity until you receive a test result. For some infections, retesting after treatment may be required.

The Basic 3 test is for anyone who is sexually active and wants to check in on their sexual health by testing for 3 very common infections. Regular testing for these infections is recommended as they often display no signs or symptoms. If you have not had a full sexual health test in over a year, we recommend that you test with one of our more comprehensive options. See our full range of sexually transmitted infection tests here.

To help you get the treatment you need in an easy and convenient way, we provide prescriptions in line with best practice clinical guidelines at no additional charge. In the event that an infection is detected, our clinical team will call you to discuss your treatment options and arrange for a prescription for suitable medication to be sent to your home if required.

Prescriptions for treatment may be provided for the following infections:

  • Chlamydia
  • Trichomoniasis

Prescribing guidelines vary depending on your location and your individual situation.

If you test positive and are a suitable candidate, we can send this prescription for suitable medication to your home. There is no need to visit a clinic or make an appointment with your doctor to seek treatment with LetsGetChecked’s discreet and convenient service.

Please note that the cost of the medication is not covered by LetsGetChecked.

Our dedicated team of clinical experts will call you to discuss your results and recommend that you share these results with your healthcare provider to help you get any follow-up treatment required.

Up to 85% of new sexually transmitted infections have no noticeable symptoms. When left untreated, STIs can contribute to everything from abdominal pain and infertility to even cancer in certain cases. Regular testing can help you detect a silent infection and prevent complications. Many STIs can be cured with antibiotics, and all can be managed with other medication to minimise risk to you and others.

Activating the test connects you to the unique alphanumeric barcode within your LetsGetChecked sample collection kit. The laboratory cannot process your sample if the test is not activated and linked to you.

LetsGetChecked has a team of doctors who have created expert support materials and detailed result breakdowns for your testing journey. Our nursing team is on standby throughout the testing process and, if you test positive, you will receive a call to discuss your results.

The sample must be collected before 10am on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday and returned on the same day.

For your urine sample please make sure to collect the initial stream of urine in the morning before cleansing the genital area and do not urinate at least 1 hour prior to collection.

If you are concerned about possible exposure to one of these infections you should refrain from sexual activity until you receive a test result. For some infections, retesting after treatment may be required.

Return your sample using the carrier method provided within the sample collection kit. Each of our health tests includes a prepaid delivery envelope to return your samples to the laboratory.

Please do not collect or return samples on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

Keeping your personal data secure is important to us. We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to ensure security and confidentiality of your information, and only share your information where required to deliver our products and services or where we have a legal basis to do so.
