Haemoglobin A1c
Hemoglobin A1c - also known as HbA1c or A1c - measures your average blood sugar levels over the past 3 months. This testing screens for prediabetes and diabetes. If you have diabetes, monitoring your HbA1c levels can help you to understand how well your blood sugars are being controlled.
When to collect your sample:
The sample must be collected in the morning, on a Monday - Thursday, and returned on the same day.
You should consider testing if:
You have type 2 diabetes;
You have prediabetes;
You lead a sedentary lifestyle;
You smoke;
You are overweight or obese;
You are aged 35 or older, though younger people can be affected;
You have a family history of diabetes;
You are of African American, American Indian, Asian American, Hispanic/Latino, or Pacific Islander heritage;
You have a history of gestational diabetes.
This test is not suitable if:
You are under 18 years of age;
You are pregnant.
If you have type 1 diabetes, you should contact your healthcare provider (HCP) before collecting your sample.
Type 2 diabetes is preventable through healthy behaviors. Regular testing provides you with the valuable insights you need to track your blood sugar (HbA1c) levels over time, as well as help you monitor the impact of healthy lifestyle habits to help prevent disease.
Every adult, no matter what weight, fitness or lifestyle, should stay aware of their levels throughout their life. However, there are some factors that may increase your risk, so you should discuss any results with your HCP.

There are two main types of diabetes, type 1 & type 2. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease usually developing in childhood. Between 90 and 95% of people with diabetes have type 2 diabetes, which tends to be diagnosed in adulthood.
Type 2 diabetes often develops slowly over many years and can have very mild symptoms to begin with, which can go unnoticed. This is why keeping track of your blood sugar is so important, as type 2 diabetes may be prevented with healthy lifestyle changes. Common symptoms of diabetes can include:
Frequent urination (peeing), often at night.
Excessive thirst
Excessive hunger
Blurred vision
Fatigue
Numbness or tingling in hands or feet
More infections than usual
