What's measured
HPV
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a family of over 100 viral strains, some of which cause warts, and others are associated with cancer of the genital tract, most frequently, on the cervix. Your sample will be tested for the following HPV strains 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66 and 68. These strains are considered high-risk for the development of cervical cancer. If HPV type 16 or 18 are identified in a sample, the test result will read ‘HPV 16 detected’ or ‘HPV 18 detected’. If one of the other high-risk strains is present, the test result will read ‘other high-risk type detected’ and the specific strain will not be provided in the results.
