HPV testing for women, to detect high risk strains for cervical cancer.
We test for:
HPV 18 and
Other high risk types (HPV 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66 and 68 — specific type will not be provided in results)
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is transmitted through sexual contact and causes almost 100% of cervical cancer in women. It is estimated that 1 in 2 will contract the virus in their lifetime. Like most STIs HPV is symptomless and requires a test to detect the virus.

Before you collect your sample:
This testing is not suitable for use during pregnancy. If you are pregnant and have concerns about HPV please talk to your doctor.
Discuss this testing with your doctor if you are outside the recommended age for HPV screening programs.
This testing is not a replacement for regular cervical (pap) smear tests.
This testing may not provide information about specific high-risk strains detected.
When to collect your sample:
This sample should be collected in the morning on a Monday - Thursday and returned on the same day. Do not collect your sample when you are menstruating.
Please wait at least 48 hours after intercourse/sexual activity or using vaginal creams, gels or tablets before collecting your sample.
Who should be tested
This testing will detect strains that are considered high-risk for developing cervical cancer.
You should be tested if:
You have had skin-to-skin contact with someone who is carrying the HPV virus
You have had unprotected sex
You have not received an HPV vaccine
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a family of over 100 viral strains, some of which cause warts, and others are associated with cancer of the genital tract, most frequently, on the cervix. Your sample will be tested for the following HPV strains 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66 and 68. These strains are considered high-risk for the development of cervical cancer. If HPV type 16 or 18 are identified in a sample, the test result will read ‘HPV 16 detected’ or ‘HPV 18 detected’. If one of the other high-risk strains is present, the test result will read ‘other high-risk type detected’ and the specific strain will not be provided in the results.
